I just Googled Ron's "Church of Beaver Cleaver" to post about it on a forum and had NO IDEA that Ron had passed away! What a loss -- I sure do remember the years we spent together on Illuminet BBS! It's still the best place I've spent time online.

(You can find me on FB as my old sysop name Emilia Lanier or as Booko on a few forums, but AllBeliefs is probably the place I'll turn up soonest.)Emilia Lanierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16411844315892621192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15872122.post-58549390504230184302011-06-05T17:57:21.887-04:002011-06-05T17:57:21.887-04:00Whenever I get on a plane (as I did this morning),...Whenever I get on a plane (as I did this morning), I think of Ron as it starts to take off -- how well he described the effect as he prepped me for my first plane trip back when I was wee young teen hanging out in the record store where he worked in my neighborhood. Although I did not follow in his enthusiasm for Thomas Dolby, he turned me onto Crowley and so much more -- there was never any hope of my being normal, for which I thank him.

I wish he were still around now, musing on life in the hyper-digital age of mounting climate change as the Mayan clock ticks ever closer to 12.

I don't know how else he is remembered by others any more, but he's not far whenever I board a plane and prepare for lift-off.deletedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04716976013011197435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15872122.post-59312068182620396222009-10-20T19:56:28.784-04:002009-10-20T19:56:28.784-04:00This is really sad. I just learned of Ron's death via a a random conversation where I mentioned that I worked at Oxford Books, and someone asked me if I knew him.

Ron produced my band's EP about 1986. He was so kind to us. He did a great job on the record, which we made in a very state of the art studio run by some friends of his out on Lenox Road, and he went above the call of duty in helping us finish the mix.

He was a really good guy, with a fine, creative spirit. What a pity that he died such a banal and pointless death, so young.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15444587463493226174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15872122.post-1164373893580650732006-11-24T08:11:00.000-05:002006-11-24T08:11:00.000-05:00Thanks for this posting. Ron was a friend of mine ...Thanks for this posting. Ron was a friend of mine back in Atlanta in early and mid-'80s and ultimately a client of mine into the late '90s. I think I might have actually passed to Ron his first mimeographed copy of the Gemstone Files, which I received in 1981. Later, after he started Illuminet, I served as copyeditor/proofreader for many of his books, each one more fantastic than the last. We also participated in a one-night-only band in about 1984 called The Bangs Upstairs, playing "Lookie Irene, a Duck" behind a sheet on stage. I didn't even know Ron played guitar until one afternoon in my house, and then was witness to some of the most entrancing seemingly ten-fingered playing I'd ever seen. I feel honored to have known Ron during this time and was horrified to read about his passing. Thanks again for this posting. Ron was one of the greatest people I've ever known.czarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10887869458750797012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15872122.post-1145424300928757812006-04-19T01:25:00.000-04:002006-04-19T01:25:00.000-04:00I miss Ron too, he was a great friend and conversa...I miss Ron too, he was a great friend and conversationalist.
