Venezuelan Grand Master murdered during kidnap attempt

The Burning Taper joins with other Masonic voices in expressing our outrage and condemnation at the murder of our brother M.W. Francisco Pereiro Liz, Grand Master of Masons in Venezuela.

He was shot and killed Wednesday during an apparent kidnapping attempt on his coffee farm in Barqisimeto.

We send our condolences to his family and to our brethren in Venezuela.

  3. I am shocked.

May the GAOTU rest Brother Francisco's soul and comfort the bereaved.

Does anyone know whether our Brother was murdered because he was a Mason? Or was this despiteful crime simply a failed attempt to extort money from his family?

  4. Other than on Masonic blogs, I can find no references to Bro. Liz's murder online. One would think that a murder/kidnapping attempt in a nation currently in the news for its political and military disagreements with its neighbors might have drawn the attention of the international bureaus of Fox News or CNN.

This morning CNN announced that Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador have signed a declaration to end a crisis sparked when Colombian troops killed a rebel leader and 21 others inside Ecuadoran territory.

I hope for peace in this part of the world, and that the U.S. can keep its nose out of it.

Again, I offer condolences and prayers to the family of Bro. Liz and to our brethren in Venezuela.

  6. I`m the oldest son of Francisco Pereiro Liz, better known as Paco.

I`m not allowed to say much, because the investigation is still going, but I can tell you that there was no kidnapping attempt. His killing was planned.

Thanks for posting about my dad.

I will try to come back to your blog as soon as I`m allowed to tell you why he was killed, as soon as the technical police of Venezuela finnishes their investigations and charges to the murderers are made.

    Kind regards,

    Francisco M. Pereiro G.
