The "Real" Tao of Freemasonry

The Freemasonry that can be described is not the eternal Freemasonry. The name that can be spoken is not the eternal Name.

The nameless is the boundary of Heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of creation.

Freed from desire, you can see the hidden mystery. By having desire, you can only see what is visibly real.

Yet mystery and reality emerge from the same source. This source is called darkness.

Darkness born from darkness. The beginning of all understanding.

  1. I know that some people dont' care for the Stephen Mitchell translation because he wrote it to be somewhere to between prose and poetry. I like it because it bridges that gap - it's pleasnt to the ear without sounding contrived.

  2. It IS very pleasant to the ear. I used to read my young son to sleep with the Tao te Ching. He'd remember which one we were on and where I was when he fell asleep.
