Venus, the Devil, Jack Chick and Freemasonry

After reading a post about Christian anti-Masons on the new Masonic blog Horseshoes and Handgrenades, I was knocking about the Internet when I found a very interesting essay from 2001 called "Venus, the Devil, Jack Chick and Freemasonry."

The essay explains how Venus, the brightest "star" in the sky, came to be associated with the Christian Satan, and then looks at how anti-Mason Leo Taxil's hoax and made-up quotation by Albert Pike has led to today's rabid anti-Masonic positions by people and organizations such as John Ankerberg, FreemasonryWatch.org, and Jack Chick, who continue to repeat the lies Taxil himself reputed in 1897.

Fascinating reading....

  2. Andy, if you don't like Freemasonry, don't worry; nobody is going to ask you to join.

  4. Blah, blah, blah. I hate Freemasons, blah, blah, blah.

Sorry you got blackballed, Andy. Try the Elks.

  5. Andy, if you are going to comment, make it worthwhile. You'd be much more effective with a rational and reasoned argument. Otherwise, perhaps you should move on.

    Respectfully,
    Carter

  7. Hello Andy Warhol
    (August 6, 1928- February 22, 1987),

My name is Eric. I am not a Mason, but still researching. As a result of my researching of Freemasonry, I have been to more wikipedia sites than you could ever imagine. One of the wikipedia topics I read was about the modes of persuasion used in rhetoric. They are Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.

Your previous postings are using none of the above. If you would like to present an intelligent argument or objection to Freemasonry, go ahead. I would like to read your comments. I am sure that there are many well knowledgeable experts on the subject that that may be willing to respond to your concerns. Absent of an intelligent argument you are just portraying yourself as a complete idiot, but that is my opinion.

  8. It's no wonder that people think masons need to grow up.

This coming from a guy who uses expressions like "lard butt" and "asshat" and "toilet bomb."

The noise you just heard was the needle breaking off of my irony meter.
