Masonic blog disclaims association with Burning Taper

Recently we added the The Lion's Paw: The Masonic Thoughts and Musings of a Fundamentalist Past Master blog to our blog roll.

It doesn't look like he's been getting much traffic, but then, he hasn't been writing very much. We originally added him to the blogroll to help out a brother. (If you have a Masonic website or blog and would like to be listed on our blogroll, email us.)

Currently the statistics counter on The Lion's Paw boasts 276 total page views since it began in October 2006. The blog-owner has posted six entries in the six months since he started blogging. Burning Taper is honored to be the subject of the most recent of those six blog posts. Here's what Bro. Nathan Brindle wrote about us:
Disclaming a link

I see that the BurningTaper blog (which I only read for laughs when someone points me to a particularly egregious post) has linked me. I didn't ask for the link, I have no connection to that blog, and I have no desire for my blog to be associated with it.

Just making it clear.
Thanks for the mention, Bro. Brindle!

  1. Yikes...he really went out of his way to be rude, didn't he?

I tried to muddle through one of his longer posts to see what he's about, but after three paragraphs I still wasn't syure what he was talking about...it had quite a spoporific effect.

  2. Why is this of interest or newsworthy. For the fact that you brought him 200+ hits to his blog??

You seem to want to go out of your way to point out the bad in everything

  3. I dont have to agree with a Brothers blog to read it or appreciate the effort that goes into it. I also think the only way to get to the bottom of issues is to see every side!

  4. Anonymous: It's not out of my way. Honestly.

Did I point out anything bad? I thanked him for mentioning BT, didn't I? How much more gleeful and courteous can I be?

You seem to find joy in pointing out my deficiencies. Why don't you start your own blog dedicated to pointing out what a terrible blog Burning Taper is? Please spell it right and be sure to get the links correct; I appreciate the traffic.

Exactly! Reading alternative opinions is how we learn new things. You don't have to accept an alternative idea, but it's good to know they exist.

  6. Well some of us really appreciate the traffic you send us. I'll have to read Lion's Paw more and get back to you though on my opinion of his blog. I can't give an opinion yet... Just wanted to thank you for the traffic your link sends my way!

  7. So you guys care more about the traffic and hits this type of press gives you and not that it's making a mockery of the craft?

    That's just great!

Can you give three examples of how Burning Taper is "making a mockery of the Craft"?

  10. I tell ya a guy makes a compliment and says thanks and some anonymous person tries to pick apart my thanks and somehow turn it around. I was just saying thanks. I don't know why I'm defensive but I value the generosity of a link... I also value friendship and respect among other things but it's hard to get all this in a comment box OK anonymous person...

  11. Here is what I feel is making a mokery of the Masons on your "Masonic" blog

    1) Party at Masonic hall turns violent when alcohol runs out - with a pic of a kid drinking a huge bottle. This implies that the masons were involved with the party

    2) Masonic lodge to hold beef and noodle dinner!
The cost for this mouth-watering plate of Hamburger Helper ® is, according to the news report, $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under five. No price is given for those ages 5-17, so either it's free, or you're not allowed to eat; I can't tell.
Happy health tip: If you're watching your waistline, avoid the noodles and just eat the beef.

    But wait! There's more!

Rainbow Girls Chapter No. 27 of Southington, Connecticut.. etc

    Hang on! This just in!

Hassan Grotto, a Masonic-affiliated organization of the Grottoes of North America, will have the charter re-constituted and officers installed in a public ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday,
March 10 in the Masonic Temple, 821 Central Ave., in Great Falls, Montana

If your lodge or Masonic group is doing something to make the world a better place, tell us,
and we'll tell the world. Future "Masonic Happy News" will be marked by the Big Yellow Smiley
Face, so you can always warm your heart and put a smile on your face by reading the latest happy
    Masonic news!

    3) Good turnout for Masonic lodge breakfast

I've recently been scolded (see comments section of "Making Masons look stupid?") for posting negative news and commentary here, and for being "too gleeful" in my writing, and told that I never promote the positive things about Freemasonry. Your Masonic nudges have been heard, and heeded!

These were on the front page- I didn't have to dig very far to get 3 examples.

I/we all know that you are not a happy camper these days for being rejected from your lodge and you are on a mission to discredit masonry as a whole.

If this makes you feel better then go for it. It's your right to have free speech.

And before you say it, yes by pointing out that a lodge is have a dinner or an event isn't making a mockery the way you are doing it is very sarcastic and demeaning.

Just keep pimping for Jeff Peace and the GLoA

A few comments up, you accused me of being "on a mission to discredit Masonry as a whole."

What mission are you on? You add nothing of interest to a conversation, and now you've out of the blue started trashing Bro. Jeff Peace.

While I often point out the negative things about Freemasonry "as a whole," I seldom if ever speak ill of a particular Mason. I even disguised the identities of the evil men in my own lodge in my "Small Town Freemasonry" series, and my articles about NASCAR-Scottish Rite or Shrine shenanigans aren't aimed at any particular Mason, but at the institution that sometimes fosters inept leadership.

If you have a personal grudge against Bro. Peace, take it up with him privately, and stop besmirching his name on this blog.

I'm no pimp for anyone. Bro. Jeff is a friend and brother to me. I assume you are a Freemason, too, since you take such an interest in what I write here. Therefore, he is a brother to you also, like it or not, and your repetitive attacks against him when he's not a subject of or even a contributor to this post is childish and unmasonic.

I don't care if you agree with what I write here or not. Feel free to comment on any article here you wish, but stop the personal, ad hominem attacks and contribute something of substance.

  16. Rainbow Girls Chapter No. 27 of Southington, Connecticut.. etc

... which did not have as much of a turn out as we did last year, but it was still a fabulous Corned Beef dinner, cooked mainly by the JW and his wonderful wife. Well, mainly his wife, since he can barely boil water. And afterward we had a great FC degree, including a full MC (staircase) lecture by the SD. Excellent work, I might add.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for mentioning it. We did get a few visiting brethren, but I didn't ask if they came because they saw it in your blog.

  17. Glad to have been able to post the info about the St. Pat's Day feast, Bro. Tom.

You were one of the very few who took me up on my offer of posting local Masonic events here on BT. I would have thought, after reading the messages from the whiners who don't like negative Masonic news that more brethren who read this blog would have sent in notices about their local events... but as you can see from our anonymous brother's recent comments, some people find even those kinds of articles inappropriate.

  18. Didn't Tublecain first attack me saying that I was crying?

I apprecate Jeff's talents as a Historian very much so and my comments were to Tublecain not Jeff.

I was asked to provide 3 instances were I found you to be less than favorable and I found them with ease. The posts you have about the dinners were not for a postive public relations natute but to point out or to make fun of them.

    The comments were snide.

You don't need to speak of an indivudial to make the whole look bad. That is semantics.

You asked why I don't contribute something of sunstance. I think what you are saying is that if I don't agree with you then I'm not adding anything.

Finally I would like to reiterate this was not an anti Jeff post sorry if that was teken that way.

  19. Getting back to the subject of this post: I see that the counter on the Lion's Paw blog has increased by about 23% since we posted this entry approximately 24 hours ago.

My thanks to all who checked out his Masonic site.

Glad we could send you a few readers, Bro. Brindle!

So Anonymous, who was the first one on this thread to attack another? You attacked Widow's son and jeff peace in one comment! But you will cry when I do the same back?
tsk tsk tsk.. my, are we not childish in this perception?

No, I do not walk Jeff's dog, but if Jeff or any other Brother have been cheated, wronged or defrauded without someone lifting a finger for his defense, I will be on that side, to respond and offer relief to a brother who has been wronged.

So, mighty anonymous, I will still send the Waaaaaaaaahmbulance over to you since I wronged you, but keep piling on Brother Peace(who was really wronged, not you crying like a little bitch about a blog)
    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Jeff was not afforded a masonic trial, as all masons are supposed to afforded and kicked out, but YOU are going whine over a blog and some comments?
Grow a pair, why don't you and go cry at an OES meeting, ok!
I'd hate to see how you would react in the face of a REAL travesty!
Glad your not in my foxhole!

  22. Oh little Tublecain you are so misguided, did you also get kicked out of a lodge as well or did you decide to demit on your own to join the Grand Lodge of America?

By the way how is that club doing?

I don't hear very much about it anymore.

If you read my post I appoligized for brining Jeff into this unprovoked but you only see what you want to. tsk tsk tsk so childish.

This is why you get kicked out of every message board you sign up for. You have a certain flair to annoy people.

My first 2 posts simply asked why you are so gleeful to post mostly the negative "news" you then asked me to prove what was so negative and i did so. So instead of responding to that you go off on me not being someone you want in tight quarters.

Bro., this was the original WAAAAAAAAH that got all of you kicked off of most of the masonic forums! Again, we issue a collective wish to the universe that you all just shut up and get on with starting your own little club or something.

Just let it rest all of you who beat your chests about who is the better, bigger mason.

    In other words: Whatever.

  24. Anonymous: You now seem to be confusing me with Tubalcain420. I said nothing about "close quarters," by which I assume you meant Tubalcain's reference to a foxhole.

  28. Hey, hey! I could use some more blog hits. Could I disclaim association with BT, too?

I know, I know - it's a bit hypocritical after I just thanked you for posting the bit about the Rainbow Girl St. Paddy dinner. But if I promise not act to gleeful about it, maybe it'll pull my stats up.

Of course, I could always try writing a few things, but hey, that's a lot like work.
