Florida Mason slugs brother during lodge meeting, knocking his teeth out

I had to check the date on this story twice, thinking it must be a late April Fool's joke.

A Lehigh Acres, Florida lodge brother slugged his Masonic brother during a lodge meeting, knocking his teeth out!

Wednesday night, 73-year-old Bro. William Horacio was arrested after he decked Bro. Cliff Ayers, the Naples Daily News reported.

Witnesses reported that Ayers "had been provoking Horacio all night." When Ayers corrected something Horacio was saying, Horacio stepped down from the podium and charged at Ayers, 17 years his junior, punching him several times in the face as others tried to pull them apart, the sheriff's office said.

Ayers had his permanent bridge knocked loose. He told reporters the incident was not newsworthy, adding that "Masonry does a lot of good things for a lot of people."

Arrested on a felony battery charge, Horacio was still in custody Thursday afternoon.

UPDATE April 9: Be sure to read Bro. Coffey's essay on this topic.

  7. Heh... no, Bro. Isaiah, I wasn't at that meeting, and am glad I wasn't. That couldn't have been pretty, watching two Masonic brothers beat on each other.

  12. It would be interesting to find out if and when charges of unmasonic conduct are filed against either or both of these unruly brothers.
